Engineering and medicine are still the most in-demand courses for students completing class 12 in India. Although categorisations in medicine are very few, engineering offers plenty of specialisations for students to choose from. B. Tech and B.E. admissions are not a difficult process in Indian universities. Most admission procedures are based on national, state, or university-level entrance tests conducted each year. Several colleges select students based on their merit.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is the major national-level engineering entrance test in India conducted two times a year. Although JEE is attempted by students to get into an IIT or NIT, all engineering institutions in India accept the JEE score as a base for admissions. JEE will be held in January and April of 2023. Students who wish to improve their recent performance in January can attempt the April session of JEE that will be conducted on 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11 and 12 April.
Some of the other popular entrance examinations for engineering in India conducted by various states and universities are BITSAT, WBJEE, UPESEAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, KIITEE, etc.
All students who wish to join engineering courses must attend either of these entrance tests according to their preference. What are the eligibility criteria for B. Tech admission?
Students seeking B. Tech admission must fulfil certain eligibility criteria for admissions. The requirements may vary from one college to another and must be checked before applying. The basic admission criteria for admission are given below:
- You must pass Class 12 from a recognised school board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as major subjects.
- You must score minimum aggregate marks of 50% in each subject in Class 10 and 12.
- For top universities, you must score the cut-off marks in their entrance examination or JEE.
Students seeking admission to Biotechnology engineering courses must have Biology also as a subject in Class 12 with minimum marks. Your admission will also be based on group discussions and interviews in certain colleges.
